British Airways made a new commercial featuring a Mumbai mother who hadn’t seen her son since he left for New York at age 17. As it’s an airline advertisement, I’m sure you can guess what happens at the end, but it’s still a tearjerker.
What I found most interesting about this was a comment on the video from a member of the family. The sister/daughter pointed out that even though the process of making the commercial has touched her family in such an important way, she still can’t patronize the airline because the UK requires visas for Indian citizens even if they do not leave the airport! The airline might want to make money off of bringing Indian diaspora families together, but the UK’s increasingly restrictive immigration regime will not make it easy.
