Lately, the US media seems to be obsessed with Asian people spending money:
- Slate ran a story about Chinese antiques going for ridiculous prices at auction due to high demand from Chinese nouveaux riches.
- The San Jose Mercury News did a feature on the investment visa that will get you and your family permanent residency in the US in exchange for a $1 million investment (half of that if you invest in an economically struggling area).
- Reuters reported on the acquisition of the entire town of Buford, Wyoming by an anonymous Vietnamese buyer.
Chinese and Vietnamese are not the only newly conspicuous spenders in the US; Brazilians have been buying up comparatively cheap properties in New York and Miami.

Go to the outlet mall near the town of Barstow, California, There are busloads of frenzied Mainland Chinese tourists spending their hard-earned cash there.

Chinese American tourists, too! My parents make it a point to stop in Barstow every time we go to Vegas, and there are many families that visit with far more regularity that mine.
