Monsieur Nov and Asian masculinities in the diaspora

I’ve recently discovered Monsieur Nov, a “bald Chinese” French neo-soul/R&B artist. It’s refreshing to see in this video a version of Asian masculinity that you rarely see in the US, even in media by and for Asian Americans. Here you have a tough-looking Asian dude serenading and seducing a black woman–and not for comic effect! I don’t know how “mainstream” he is in France, but props to Monsieur Nov for challenging stereotypical images of emasculated Asian men and to French audiences for being receptive of this type of image.
